Ripley's RBI 01: Scaly Tale is the first in the Ripley's RBI series. Ripley High is a special school for students with special powers. Within the student body, a small group of students with extra special powers are chosen to join the school's secret Ripley’s Bureau of Investigation, the RBI. Their mission is to respond to reports of strange things happening around the world. Like Ripley, their job is to separate fact from fiction with an arsenal of high-tech tools. This first assignment sends a team to the Florida Everglades to investigate reports of a half-man, half-reptile creature.
At first the book reads like the introduction to a video game with teacher and student bio-sketches, graphics, and RBI background information designed to tempt reluctant readers. Once the story begins its peppered with sidebar facts on smart phone image graphics. There's lots of action. Lots of dialogue. Lots of danger. Lots of close calls before the team discovers the truth behind the rumors of the lizard-man. The story is followed up by the real-life case file from Ripley's Believe it Or Not. Kids who love to read Ripley's Believe it Or Not, will love this book.

TARGET AUDIENCE: 5-7th graders
MYSTERY / SUSPENSE:  scary action
